Latinos and Latino organizations continue to attack U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for his ridiculous comments questioning Latino membership in the Republican Party. Reid said “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, OK. Do I need to say more?” (VIDEO)
The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), which represents over 6,000 Hispanic elected and appointed officials, issued a statement condemning Senator Reid’s political foot-in-mouth moment:
“Latinos are as diverse in their political views as everyone else living in this great nation, and are not necessarily identified solely with one political party. The community strives to be full participants in the American political process, regardless of political affiliation.
NALEO appreciates the importance and enormous value of Latinos participating in all political parties.”
Beyond national organizations, many local leaders are upset at Reid’s comments. Rafael Rivadeneira, candidate for State Representative of the 41st District of Illinois penned an open letter to Senator Reid, explaining diez (ten) reasons a Latino would vote Republican.
